Type of wood

You want to know, which types of wood we use for our products? Then this is the place to be. :-)

Maple wood

Maple wood belongs to the most valuable real hardwoods and occurs overall in Eurasia and North America. It is flexible and supple; however, it is hard at the same time. The annual rings are clearly visible. Maple has got a low contraction Ratio and, therefore, is ideal for this purposes.

Hackberry

Hackberry trees are usually between ten and 25 metres high and with spreading branches and one can find it most likely in Europe, America and North Africa. The dark brown or reddish wood is hard and flexible and was used to produce various products since time immemorial.

Zebrano wood

Zebrano trees grow naturally in the tropical rainforests of central Africa and can rise up to 40 metres, whereas the tree trunk is usually 20 metres Long and free of knots. The heartwood is greyish-brown, matte shining and covered with dark brown stripes; which arises the Zebra pattern. Zebrano wood is hard and weather resistant, but still flexible.

Oak wood

Oak wood is robust and known for its durability. The greyish-yellow up to yellowish-brown heartwood has a different colour than the surrounding sapwood. The annual rings of oak wood are visible and help the wood to get an even grain.

Olive wood

The traditional mediterranean tree shows many different types of colours and patterns. The spectrum ranges from yellow, green and brown up to red. The wood is pretty decorative, overall because of its irregular dark/bright wood grain. The structure is regular and refined, but still tight, hard and weather resistant.<

Rose wood

There is no connection between the rosewood and roses or rose bushes. When cut, the wood of the 10 metres high leaf tree, smells just like roses; therefore the name. It’s quite hard, dense and rough. The extraordinary colour of the wood is special: a light brown, mixed with yellow and pink.

Ebony wood

Ebony is a dense black hardwood and is rated as being very durable. The heartwood is usually jet-black, with little to no variation or visible grain. Occasionally dark brown or grayish-brown streaks may be present.

Apple wood

Apple trees usually get between 10 and 15 metres high and the color of their dark heartwood differs from auburn to brown. Fruit trees provide highly appreciated, decorative woods and rank unexceptionally among the so called precious woods.

Barrique wood

Initially the barrels used for winemaking were made of different types of wood, but over time the cellar masters realized, that only barrels made of oak- and chestnut wood pass on suitable aromatics to the wines, which store in them. The barrique barrels, that we use for our watches, are finished in oak-wood and store the Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva DOC 2015 “quintessenz” of the winery Kaltern.

Wenge wood

Wenge is a tropical timber, very dark in color with a distinctive figure and a strong partridge wood pattern. The wood is heavy and hard.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood has got coarse, winding and crossing fibres. The native area of cultivation of this tree in in India, China and on the Philippines. However, it’s also popular in other regions like Taiwan and Australia. The sweet and stringy fragrance is said to be warming and reassuring for the human organism. Therefore, nervous people may fall in a deep and relaxing sleep by means of sandalwood.

Lead wood

The lead wood tree belongs to the biggest types of trees of Africa and can grow up to 20 metres. The color of the heartwood can differ from red to dark brown, and gradually darkens in tone with time.

Mango wood

Mango wood is categorized as hardwood because of its strength, density, attractive looks and of course durability that allows it not to wear out quickly and keep their high luster texture for many years.

Teak wood

The grain of teak wood is straight, though it can occasionally be wavy or interlocked. The heartwood tends to be a golden or medium brown, with color darkening with age.

Walnut wood

The grain of walnut wood is usually straight, has a medium texture and moderate natural luster. The heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. The color can sometimes have a grey, purple or reddish cast.

Acacia wood

Acacia wood is a type of wood that is derived from the Australian-native Acacia trees and shrubs, which are now also found in Asia, the Pacific Islands, Africa and parts of the Americas. There are more than a thousand different varieties of Acacia tree.

 

   

Gemstones

Wood is not the only natural material we use for our products - we also process different gemstones in our dials.
Also these gemstones are a natural product and the different grain makes every watch to something particular. That's why discolorations, light or dark grains and points in the stone are no reason for complaint. Every watch is really unique like the wearer himself.

White marble

Marble is one of the rocks, that are formed by a conversion of the limestone, dolomites and other carbonate-rich rocks. As a result of high temperature - and pressure relations during the formation the original rock converts in mineral consistence, structure and optics. The name marble derives from the old greek word mármamos - the der vocabulary for shining - and refers to the shimmering surface of the stone.

Black Marble

When thinking of marble, one usually thinks about a heavenly white, luxurious and shining rock with the usual marble grain - but the gemstone offers a variety of other colour spectrums just like the luxurious black marble. The production is just as metamorphose as the one of the white marble, but it contains different substances. The colour simply depends on the stone layers in the quarry.

White marble (LASA)

Lasa marble is a very hard, resistand and weatherproof marble. It is fine-grained, which makes it particularly noble and precious. Lasa marble is frost, de-icing salt and chlorine resistant. The good and at the same time even interlocking of the cristalls in the stone makes the Lasa marble also waterproof.

SLATE STONE

The term slate comes from the miner language of the middle ages and obtain to the character of some stones, which fall apart at the processing or us. The color of slate stone variies with the composition and the contained minerals from grey to black, but also to green.

JADE

Jade is said to award its wearer with inner peace and wisdom. Its abilities on the human soul are unique, it is not only known for giving lust for life, joy and openness, but also helps its wearer with relacing, calming down and taking time for pauses.

TIGER EYE

Tiger eye is a very popular healing stone. It is said to award its wearer with luck and wealth. This stone can be used to ensure a clear vision and to dissolve wrong illusions. In this way this gemstone can be of use when coming to a decision. Moreover, the tiger eye is considered a protective stone and takes care of the stabilization and grounding of its wearer. It is known for supporting self-confidence, giving courage and maintaining inner balance.

CALCITE

Calcit is the stone of hope. It is said to award its wearer with self-confidence and drive. It encourages mental development, gives creativity and strengthens ones memory. By having a positive impact on intellectual power, Calcit also boosts self-confidence and gives steadfastness, as well as energy.

OBSIDIAN

Obsidian is said to give its wearer power and reduce ones fears. It is particularly known for solving blockades, shocks, fears and traumas. The stone helps when dealing with past experiences and resolving related pain.

MAGNESITE

Magnesite is said to give its wearer peace and calmness. It reduces stress and helps releasing cramps. The stone is also known for elieving irritability and mental detuning.

CHRYSOCOLLA

Chrysocolla is called he stone of new beginnings and is, thus, a very popular stone. It is known for awarding its wearer with power and heal his soul. It contains copper, which is supposed to calm our nerves. Physically Chrysocolla can be used to alleviate infections and strengthen blood, liver and digestion, as well as release cramps.

MOTHER-OF-PEARL

The inner peel layer of oysters and shells is called mother-of-pearl. It persists of the same substances as the precious pearls and can be considered as a wonder of nature. Mother-of-pearl reflects the incoming light in different colours and the special glow, the soft shimmer and the colours aare formed of different layers. Mother-of-pearl exists in different colours.

GRANITE

Granite is formed by the solidification of semifluid rocks, most of the time a depth of over 2 km below the earth's surface. This natural stone is known mostly for its hardness and the high weight.
